After twenty years of exploring every nook and cranny of our statewide National Scenic Trail, we’ve selected 30 major destinations that put the “scenic” in Florida’s own National Scenic Trail. “Feature packed with easy navigation. In the pages of this 376-page guidebook, we provide step-by-step details and maps for 52 distinct hikes across Florida, and an additional nine overviews for backpackers to tackle section hiking the most beautiful portions of the Florida Trail. Each hike also includes multiple options to extend or shrink your mileage. We’ve included most of the best day hiking loops along the Florida Trail, and made up a few loop options as we did our research. Yes, we’ve hiked every step that we include in this guide (and all the miles we didn’t, for that matter). Chapters in this guidebook cover everything from a half mile accessible destination (Round Lake Park, Oviedo) to a 42-mile backpacking trip (Eglin East) that can be broken into three distinct day hikes. You’ll find a few wheelchair-friendly options, a handful of places where you can bike or hike, and some shorter loops good for families with small children. Expect a variety of habitats and scenery ranging from rocky bluffs with river rapid views to tropical forests, dunes, colorful swamps, and vast prairies. Most of the hikes are dog-friendly. We point out when they aren’t, as well as when you might expect to get your feet wet.
